I’ve been travelling so much since the last blog I did – I’ve been to Gloucester, Newport in Wales, two cities in China, and countless airports!!
First – in Gloucester I was there in February for the China Open Qualifiers where I played Welshman Michael White and it didn’t go quite to plan for me I must say. Michael played awesome and the few chances I did have I just didn’t get going at all and when that’s the case you often find no favour fortunes you. It’s sport! 5-0 was the result but I came off still feeling confident about my game.
It was on to Wales straight after for the start of the Welsh Open where I was drawn to play top 16 player Robert Milkins and I played well and managed to win 4-2. Then it top 32 player David Gilbert up next a few days later, having came home for a few days, and I put in another nice performance and got a 4-1 win. In the last 32 it didn’t get any easier as I was now playing Andrew Higginson – another top 32 player. It was a long match and I was 3-1 down and looking like losing 4-1 until I made a miraculous clearance to steal the frame and from 3-2 onwards I made two good 62 breaks to win 4-3! Now it was on to the last 16 – Ding Junhui was facing me now. A player who has won 4 world ranking events this season already & fair to say the seat I was in was pretty comfy!! I lost 4-0 and didn’t get much of a shot to be honest.
Next it was on to China where I was playing in the Dongguan Open (the final APTC of the season) & I reached the last 32 which was good enough to qualify (APTC results after four events, top 8) me for the Players Championship Grand Final in Preston at the end of March!
Then it was on to the Haikou World Open where I beat Chinese player Lin Shuai in the wildcard round and then lost to another Chinese top 32 player Liang Wenbo.
All in all, a good couple of months.
